Sunrise Rotary Club Honors
Chad Buelter
On January 15, 2008, the Arvada
Sunrise Rotary Club was delighted to honor Arvada Senior
High School junior, Chad Buelter, for his outstanding
academic performance and community service.
Chad excels in academics,
athletics, and community service. Chad is especially
interested in Chemistry and other sciences. After
graduation, he plans to attend college and major in the
sciences. Chad plays baseball for Arvada High. He is also
involved in student government, serving as a class
representative.
As a junior, Chad is eligible
to receive the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, which includes
a week-long leadership camp that will be held in July 2008
in Estes Park, Colorado.

Caitlin Peters
On
January 15, 2008 the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was pleased
to honor Pomona Senior High School senior, Caitlin Peters,
for her outstanding academic performance and community
service. Caitlin is the daughter of Kelly and Jesse Peters
of Arvada.
Caitlin excels academically,
carrying a 4.2 GPA. She especially enjoys studying
science. In addition, Caitlin runs cross country and plays
soccer for her school. She serves the community through
participating in leadership programs at Pomona High. After
graduation, she plans to attend university on the East coast
where she will major in the sciences.

Daniel Leonard
On
January 15, 2008, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was
delighted to honor Arvada Senior High School junior, Daniel
Leonard, for his outstanding academic performance and
community service.
Daniel excels in academics,
drama, and community service. Daniel is especially
interested in English and drama. He has appeared in a
number of plays presented by Arvada High School. In a
recent production of Romeo and Juliet, he played the part of
Romeo. After graduation, Daniel plans to attend college
where he expects to major in English, Drama, and Education.
As a junior, Daniel is eligible
to receive the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, which includes
a week-long leadership camp that will be held in July 2008
in Estes Park, Colorado.

Cole Carveth
On
November 20, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was
pleased to honor Pomona Senior High School senior, Cole
Carveth, for his outstanding academic performance and
community service. Cole is the son of Barbara and Frank
Cole.
Cole is an exceptionally good
student and serves the community of Arvada as a volunteer.
In classes, he is particularly interested in math and the
sciences. Cole is a member of the Pomona High School
football team, basketball team and track team. He
participates in Pomona Leadership and is an Eagle Scout.
After graduation, Cole plans to attend college to study
engineering.

Megan Oller

November 20, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was
delighted to honor Arvada Senior High School junior, Megan
Oller, for her outstanding academic performance and
community service. Megan is the daughter of Michael and
Mary Oller.
Megan excels in academics,
athletics, and community service. She maintains a 4.0 GPA.
Currently, she is ranked first in her class. Megan spends
much of her free time in competitive fencing and teaching
fencing to children. After graduation, she plans to attend
college and major in aerospace engineering.
As a junior, Megan is eligible

Honors Karla Rosario
On
October 16, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was pleased
to honor Arvada Senior High School junior, Karla Rosario,
for her outstanding academic performance and community
service.
Karla
excels in academics, athletics, and community service. She
maintains a 4.0 GPA. She has been nominated for the Who’s
Who in American High School Students. Karla is a member of
the Arvada High School Varsity Softball team and the Varsity
Track and Field team. After graduation, she plans to attend
college and major in aerospace engineering. Karla
participates in community service projects through the Key
Club and as a Link Leader.
As a
junior, Karla is eligible to receive the Rotary Youth
Leadership Award, which includes a week-long leadership camp
that will be held in July 2008 in Estes Park, Colorado.

Honors Shumet Demie
On
October 16, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was pleased
to honor Pomona Senior High School senior, Shumet Demie, for
her outstanding academic performance and community service.
Shumet is an exceptionally good
student and serves the community of Arvada as a volutneer.
In classes, she is particularly interested in chemistry,
biology, and geology. Her counselor, Ms. Karin Blough,
states that if the school would allow Shumet to take ten
hours of classes a day, she would. She adds that Shumet
would probably fill those ten hours with science courses.
After graduation, Shumet plans to attend college and then go
on to medical school. Shumet serves her community in
volunteering at a local nursing home.

Honors Josh
Sudmeier
On September 18, 2007, the Arvada
Sunrise Rotary Club was pleased to honor Arvada Senior High School
junior, Josh Sudmeier, for his outstanding academic performance and
community service. Josh is the son of John and Mary Ann Sudmeier of
Arvada.
Josh is very well-rounded. He does
very well academically. He particularly enjoys history and
psychology courses. In addition, he is the Arvada High School
representative to Hoby Leadership for which he is completing a 100
hour community service project. Josh participates in wrestling,
cross country, track, and cheerleading. After graduation, Josh
plans to attend college and major in history or psychology.
As a junior, Josh is eligible to
receive the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, which includes a
week-long leadership camp that will be held in July 2008 in Estes
Park, Colorado.

Sarah Hanson
On
September 19, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club honored Arvada High
School junior, Sarah Hanson, for her outstanding academic
performance and community activities. Sarah is the daughter of Jaqua and Richard Abitol.
Sarah is an active student. In addition to carrying an excellent
GPA and class rank, Sarah has been honored with membership in the
National Art Honors Society for her work in the visual arts. Sarah
is involved in numerous extracurricular activities including Mock
Trial and Peace Jam. At the recent Peace Jam conference, which
featured numerous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, Sarah was thrilled by
the opportunity to meet and have her photograph taken with Nobel
Laureate Bishop Desmond Tutu. After high school Sarah plans to go
to college, although she has not determined what her major area of
study will be just yet.

Honors
Spencer Nesladek
On
April 17, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was
pleased to honor Arvada Senior High School junior, , for his outstanding academic
performance and community service. Spencer is the son
of Heidi and Steven Nesladek.
Spencer is an asset to his class at Arvada High. He
participates in many activities and does well
academically. Spencer especially enjoys his math
classes. In addition, Spencer swims for the school’s
boys’ swimming team and plays football. He enjoys
snowboarding with friends and paintball.
Outside of school hours, Spencer contributes to the
Arvada community. He is an Eagle Scout. His Eagle
Scout project included repairing and painting a building
and designing and constructing a wheelchair ramp for a
local community group.
After
graduation in May 2008, Spencer would like to take steps
toward becoming a fire fighter.

Club Honors Noelia Antweiler
On
April 17, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was
pleased to honor Pomona High School junior, Noelia
Antweiler, for her
outstanding academic performance and community service.
Noelia was accompanied to the April 17th meeting by her
father.
Noelia
excels in drama, dance, and music. She portrayed Dolly
in Pomona High School’s recent production of “Hello
Dolly.” In addition to these many artistic pursuits,
she especially enjoys her mathematics courses.
After
graduation in May 2008, Noelia hopes to pursue her dream
of becoming an actress. Her first step will be to study
musical theater at a college with an outstanding theater
department.

Berry McLaughlin

On September 18, 2007, the Arvada
Sunrise Rotary Club was pleased to honor Pomona Senior High School
senior, Berry McLaughlin, for her outstanding academic performance
and community service. Berry is the daughter of Jim and Cynthia
McLaughlin of Arvada.
Berry excels academically. She
especially enjoys history and science courses. She serves the
community through activities with the National Honor Society. With
NHS, she handed out bottles of water to participants in the Komen
Foundation Race for the Cure. She also volunteers at the Arvada
Relay for Life and Trick-or-Treat Street. Berry swims competitively
for the Pomona High School swim team. When she’s not in school or
working on a community project, Berry enjoys spending time with her
father, Jim McLaughlin, building a car. After graduation, Berry
plans to attend university where she will major in chemical
engineering.

Mike Vaughn
On
April 17, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club was
pleased to honor Arvada senior High School junior, Mike
Vaughn, for his outstanding academic performance and
community service. Mike excels in academics. He is
ranked first in his class of over four hundred students
at Arvada High School. He especially enjoys history
classes. Mike is a gifted athlete, as well. He plays
quarterback for the school’s football team and is on the
track team. This spring, Mike was a leader at Outdoor
Lab where he taught sixth graders about aerobic exercise
and astronomy.
Outside
of school hours, Mike is active in the community. He is
a Link Leader and is active in his church. After
graduation in May 2008, Michael hopes to attend
university and play for its football team. The Arvada

Honors Anthony Gonzales
On February 20,
2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club honored Arvada High
School junior, , for his outstanding
academic performance and community service.
His grandparents, Fred and Ulma
Prince accompanied Tony to the award presentation.
Tony carries a 3.91
GPA.
He is a leader in his class in
many ways.
In addition to his outstanding
class rank, Tony participates in a number of leadership
activities, including People to People.
Tony is a member of the Arvada
High School wrestling team, as well.

Victoria Moffat
On
February 20, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club honored Pomona High School
junior, Victoria Moffat, for her outstanding academic
performance and community service.
Maggie is the daughter of Charles and Salena Moffat.
Victoria carries a 3.8 GPA, which places
her in the top ten percent of her class.
She especially enjoys science courses and plans to
pursue a science degree when she enters university.
As part of her
college education, Victoria hopes to study at Cambridge
University in England where she will pursue her interest in
science.
In addition to school activities,
Victoria volunteers as a Sunday School Assistant and
Vacation Bible School teacher for first graders, at her
church.

Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club Honors
Maggie Vettel
On
February 20, 2007, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club honored
Pomona High School senior, Maggie Vettel, for her
outstanding academic performance and community service.
Maggie is the daughter of Sherri
and Tim Vettel.
Maggie carries a 4.1
GPA, which places her third in her class.
She has played volleyball for
Pomona and is a member of the National Honor Society.
In addition, Maggie is active as
a student tutor at Pomona High School.
In addition to school
activities, Maggie volunteers at her church and gives time
to the community by serving Thanksgiving dinner at the
Polish Club, caroling at retirement communities, and
participating in trails clean-up around Pomona High.
Maggie’s favorite
subjects are math and science.
She plans to attend college and
expects to pursue a liberal arts degree.
