John
Greer, Arvada Fire Chief
On April 8, 2008 the Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club had the
pleasure of hearing speaker John Greer, Arvada Fire Chief
talk about the Arvada Fire Protection District and all of
the great things they do for our community. They have moved
into a new headquarters facility and are building two new
fire stations to keep our community safe. |

Yahoo,
a field trip!
We were lucky enough to have our regular Tuesday
morning meeting at Bella Bistro, among Arvada's
newest restaurants. Owner Shelly Steinhaus was not
one to let us just hang out and do our Rotary thing
- she actually put us to work.
If you've never had breakfast pizza before, it's
yummy! Shelly gave us a quick tour of the place and
told us a little bit about her travels to Italy. Bella
Bistro's pizza oven is very impressive and serves as the
visual center of the restaurant.
Bella Bistro is located at 7702 Ralston Road in
Arvada. There is outdoor seating and all the
ambiance of a little neighborhood treasure.

The
Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club is honored to recognize Ken
Furlong, Eric Nolan, Bill Ray and Chris Rose as the
Clubs most recent Recipients of the Paul Harris
Fellowship. This Award is given to an individual who
personally contributes $1000 (US) or more to the Annual
Programs Fund, Polio Plus or the Humanitarian Grants
Program of The Rotary Foundation.
These gentlemen join a very substantial number of
current Paul Harris Fellows within our dynamic club and
they exemplify the spirit and mission of Rotary.
The Rotary Foundation was founded in 1917 and
currently has over $700 million in assets and represents
the major funding arm for Rotary's humanitarian efforts
around the world. Works include combating diseases,
taking a lead effort in the effort to rid the world of
Polio, providing clean sources of water, sponsoring
Rotary World Peace Fellows and various microcredit
efforts in a multitude of countries.
Perhaps of great interest locally is TRF's funding of
local Club efforts. The Rotary Foundation has helped
support (well over $100,000) Colorado-specific projects,
including multiple Arvada-specific projects.
