April 21, 2010 was a landmark date for the Arvada Sunrise Rotary.
The evening at the Arvada Center that brought together 8 students from Arvada and Pomona High Schools, their families and friends, dignitaries from Rotary International Clubs in the metro area and our own Rotary club for our inaugural scholarship speech contest Speak Up! 2010. The Future is up to You
These young, motivated high school seniors awed the audience with their 8 minute speeches that incorporated the Four Way Test used by Rotarians all over the world.
Is it the Truth?
Is it Fair for all concerned?
Will it build Good Will and Better Friendships?
Will it be Beneficial for all concerned?
The Patio Room at the Arvada Center, where a prime rib dinner was served, was decorated with greenery, floral centerpieces and candles for the nearly 100 people in attendance.
Each student was introduced and took the lectern for their presentation. The approaches were as diverse as the
students, ranging from a young entrepreneur and his experiences and applications of the Four Way test to his business to aspirations of being a first grade teacher and the importance of learning to read at the earliest age possible. The two top speakers took away $3000.00 and a $2000.00 scholarship award and each of the other 6 students were awarded a $500.00 scholarship.

The support of the families, counselors and members of Rotary International for the importance of this occasion cannot go unrecognized, for the Future is truly up to these bright young people with their eye on the integrity of their goals.
And a special thanks goes towards Roy & Sue Jackson for contributing to the scholarship prizes.
